My mother’s birthday had rolled around again and, as usual, I didn’t know what to buy her. So I just took the bus to the shopping district and started poking around the shops and boutiques.
Nothing caught my eye until I spotted a lovely jade pin in a jeweler’s window. In a casual manner, I strolled in and inquired about pins. But the clever salesclerk soon realized which item I wanted. It took a lot of hard bargaining to get the price down to a level I could afford. Even though I think I paid too much, it’s really a lovely piece and my mother was delighted.
